Practice 6

Q Practice Six -- Misogi • Points 15 • Submitting a text entry box or a file upload • File Types doc and docx Inspired by the Indigenous religious tradition of Japan (Shinto) we will follow a secular version of a practice of ritual purification. In winter people go to an outdoor waterfall, practice Qi Gong or T'ai Chi to get the qi moving, and then back under a waterfall, allowing the very cold water to flow all around them. See Module V: Shinto Misogi Ritual for photos. Our adaptation will be to practice in the shower. I would suggest you begin with warm water. They key is to back under the shower, allowing the water to land on the very top of your head and flow around all sides of your head and then down your body and, ultimately, down the drain. This is the practice. If you want to experiment with cooler water, do this gradually. Before you begin, think about what you would like to release -- tension, anxiety, tiredness, resentment, anger, worry, boredom. Be very conscious about setting an intention before you begin. This sixth practice in your Practice Log is due 4/18. Our goal is to practice every day. From your daily entries, choose five entries to copy/paste and submit as your Practice Log entry for this week.

13th April 2022, It was a very good day. Today I had to work on my missed work and a few assignments. I was in little tension, so I thought to do a shower practice to release my tension. I followed the instructions and made up my mind to do this practice to release my tension. I practiced with warm water and let the water do the work. I felt sitting in the shower quiet for a while and felt very relaxed after this practice.
